TWO musical groups with very long histories come to the Wyvern Theatre, Swindon during the next few days.

On Sunday, September 19 at 7.30pm The Drifters perform a spectacular two-hour show celebrating their 50th anniversary and their BPI Gold Disc Award for their new album, The Definitive Drifters.

Under the Boardwalk, Saturday Night at the Movies, Save the Last Dance for Me, Up on the Roof, Kissin' in the Back Row of the Movies are just some the magical hits they will be bringing back to life.

The Drifters are the longest running group in pop history still performing live.

For 50 years they have undergone many line-up changes and featured over 50 different singers but the 2004 Drifters are directly descended from those early days and feature long-term members Patrick Alan, Peter Lamarr, Rohan Delano Turney and newest recruit, Victor Bynoe.

The Temperance Seven, who come to the Wyvern on Monday, September 20 at 7.30pm, were formed at the Royal College of Art during 1957.

The band usually had nine numbers (one over the eight!) and dressed in the style appropriate to the late 1920s jazz they played.

The first hit numbers were provided by "whispering" Paul McDowell who was replaced later by Allan Moody Mitchell.

The band once appeared in Spike Milligan's The Bed Sitting Room and spawned new interest in the style of the 1920s.

Tickets for both shows from the box office on 01793 524481.
