THEY'VE scared us witless since 1964 and laid waste to London and alien planets alike.

But this week the Daleks were in Cirencester market place, threatening a bit of extermination.

The arch enemies of TV Timelord Doctor Who were in town to promote The BBC Experience on Sunday, September 26.

The BBC Experience promises to lift the lid on the secrets of Britain's favourite TV and Radio shows.

BBC Radio Gloucestershire will be hosting the county's event at Gloucester Leisure Centre.

Attractions include guest appearances from Boycie and Marlene - as well as Del Trotter's famous yellow three-wheeler - from Only Fools and Horses, Henry Sandon from the Antiques Roadshow and, of course, the dreaded Daleks - originals from the show owned by fan Nigel Parkes.

The team from Casualty will be demonstrating their own peculiar talent in make-overs and Points West presenters will be giving tips to budding newscasters, you are invited to sit in a special TV studio and deliver the headlines.

Cirencester College is also involved in the event. Students are helping the BBC to compile people's memories of the Second World War - both ordinary and extraordinary.

The People's War team will be on hand to show you what's already been collected and how you can share your memories.

Cirencester is the only college in the UK working with the BBC on The People's War.

(BLOB) Last week the BBC confirmed the Daleks would be back on our screens when Doctor Who makes a return in 2005, after a 14-year absence - with Christopher Eccleston in the lead role.
