SMOKERS in Cirencester will be given the chance to find out the ‘age’ of their lungs tomorrow to mark National No Smoking Day.
NHS Gloucestershire’s The Quit Stop Bus will be in town as part of a hard-hitting campaign to shock smokers into giving up the habit.
The lung-age test will be administered by a team which will be in Cirencester Industrial Estate throughout the day.
An average middle-aged smoker has a lung age 10 years older than they should due to their habit.
Kate Gegg, tobacco control lead for NHS Gloucestershire, said: "There are 4,000 chemicals in a cigarette. For someone who smokes for a very long period these chemicals can get into their lungs and cause problems – particularly tar which can block the normal workings of the lungs."
Representatives will be on hand at Watermoor Children’s Centre from 9-10am for passers-by to take the test.
Afterwards the testers will visit businesses based in the industrial estate throughout the day.
