Arrests made in vehicle patrol operation


POLICE officers from the Stroud and Cotswolds Division arrested five people and stopped 220 vehicles in an operation aimed at tackling the issues that the local community identified as priorities.

Operation Beenmore took place on Friday and was organised in response to policing priorities decided in consultation between local police safer community teams and residents. High visibility patrols were carried out by the Dursley, Stonehouse and Stroud Safer Community Teams (SCT) to prevent and detect incidents of anti social behaviour and alcohol related offences in these and surrounding areas.

During the operation officers issued one antisocial behaviour warning notice and alcohol was seized from a number of underage youths in Stonehouse, Nailsworth and Wotton-Under-Edge.

Road checks were also carried as part of the operation to crack down on speeding and traffic offences.

In Draycott, Cam, officers stopped 85 vehicles, 35 drivers were given breath tests all of which give negative results and two drivers were issued with vehicle defect rectification scheme (VDRS) tickets to fix faulty lights on their vehicle.

23 vehicles were stopped on the A38 at Cambridge; three fixed penalty tickets were issued for speeding and one ticket was issued to a woman for failing to wear a seatbelt.

Officers also carried out vehicle checks on the High Street in Stonehouse and stopped 56 vehicles, two drivers were fined for having no tax, seven drivers were given words of advice regarding minor driving offences and one driver was given a VDRS for a faulty light.

In London Road, Thrupp, 56 vehicles were stopped, 14 negative breath tests were carried out and two drivers were warned about speeding.

Five men from the West Midlands, aged 20, 22, 23, 30 and 31, were arrested during the operation on suspicion of going equipped and carrying offensive weapons. They have been bailed to return to the police station on January 5.
