Weather shuts market for first time in 10 years

BAD weather forced the cancellation of Cirencester Farmers’ Market for the first time in ten years.

Market manager Simon Smith said: "I keep a close eye on the detailed weather forecasts in the week running up to each market-and the system that gave us the lively weather on Friday and Saturday was shown as easing by dawn on Saturday morning and then picking up again by mid morning."

By 5.30am, the forecast was still bad and so Mr Smith reluctantly decided to cancel the market and phoned all 30 stallholders.

He added: "Three stallholders decided to brave out by trading from their vans and did well but the usual sheeted stalls just would not have been safe in the winds we had."

The next farmers’ market will be on Saturday, November 28.
