CLIMBERS from Gloucestershire have taken an internet safety message to a new frontier by scaling some of the highest peaks in Europe.

Mandy Homer, general manager of the Warehouse Climbing Centre in Gloucester and her partner Gavin Lewis, a watersports instructor at South Cerney, have donned t-shirts promoting the Think U Know campaign.

The pair have visited Chamonix in the Alps in preparation for their ascent of Mont Blanc next year.

While they were there they took time to pose on some of the snow-capped peaks in their specially-branded gear for the Think U Know website www.thinkuknow.co.uk, which aims to heighten awareness of internet safety issues for children such as cyber bullying and sexual grooming.

"We wanted to encourage younger people to get involved and visit the Think U Know website by wearing the t- shirts while we were doing so-called cool sports in cool locations," Mandy said.

"We want young people to know that making themselves aware of the dangers of the internet is a very cool thing to do."

The national campaign is being fully supported by Gloucestershire Constabulary and will include an Internet Safety Day on February 9.

The Warehouse is planning to take their mobile climbing wall to Gloucester City Centre on the day.

PC Darren Peters, Crime Prevention Design Advisor, said: "We are delighted that climbers from the Warehouse Climbing Centre are giving their time up to support the promotion of www.thinkuknow.co.uk. The more people that know about this website the better."
