Bisley's annual flower show to take place this weekend

Bisley's annual flower show and fete will take place on Saturday, August 29.

This year's event will be officially opened at 2pm by long-time and well-loved resident Olive Burkitt.

Olive is well-known among people from all generations within the village, including children from Bisley Blue Coat Church of England Primary School.

This year's flower queen will be 11-year-old Molly Banyard, who is due to be accompanied by no fewer than eight attendants.

The fete will feature a range of traditional attractions, including performances from Avening Silver Band, a pet show with a range of classes, a children's fancy dress competition with an alien theme, a bouncy castle and home-made teas. There will be a variety of stalls including white elephant, books, toys, cakes, plants and fruit and vegetables.

New additions for 2009 include a snail race and a special appearance by women morris dancers Belles of London.

Bisley's annual flower show, which takes place alongside the fete, will feature a wide range of classes showcasing quality produce.

The organisers hope that gardeners, flower arrangers and cooks will cast aside memories of the summer's rains to put on a good display at the event.

Proceeds from the fete will go towards the upkeep of Bisley's historic All Saints' Church.

Organiser Peter Thorp said he hoped the traditional fete and flower show, which takes place in a field off Cheltenham Road in Bisley, would attract hundreds of visitors.

He said: "It's one of the best traditional fetes and flower shows in the district and a super afternoon out for people of all generations.
