TWO young Malmesbury mums who met at childbirth classes have gone into business together to help other mothers keep their children safe.

Jayne Eardley and Kirsty Peters became friends during their National Childbirth Trust sessions two years ago.

Now they have launched their own company to help mothers find safer rear facing car seats for toddlers and have just shipped their first seat to Ireland.

The idea for the business was born after a friend sent them footage of crash tests showing the difference between traditional forward facing seats and rear facing seats popular in Scandinavia and Germany.

Jayne said: "From that point I started this huge research trying to find out as much as I could, which was a really difficult process."

Most of the websites were in Swedish or German, but the unmistakable conclusion was that the backward facing seats were up to five times safer.

Jayne ended up spending almost £400 importing a seat from Sweden.

And just as she was about to return to her post as a buyer for the Early Learning Centre, parent company Mothercare told Swindon workers they had a choice between moving to Watford or taking redundancy.

When she heard the news, Kirsty suggested they become business partners.

"I thought there wasn’t an awful lot to lose," she said.

Kirsty worked in marketing for much of her career before going into the finance sector. "When I had Jude I decided I was going to take a career break and spend some time with him," she explained.

"But I was already looking for something to do from home when this happened."

Using their combined skills they set up a one-stop shop to provide advice, practical demonstrations and support for mums wanting to buy car seats for their under fours. It went live this week.

"It has been fantastic to work for something that you feel so passionate about," said Kirsty.

"It is really close to home," added Jayne.
