TOMORROW'S county council election looks set to be an interesting contest as 15 new faces battle it out for nine seats across the eight divisions in the Cotswolds.

The last election in May 2005 saw 27 candidates stand - this year there are two fewer.

In Cirencester, Andy Rickell is standing in place of Roger Brown for the Liberal Democrats.

Peter Braidwood, a Cotswold District Councillor and town councillor for Cirencester, is the latest hopeful for the Tories and new for this year is Green Party candidate Robert Irving.

Labour's Clive Baker, who last year stood for the Moreton and Stow division, is standing alongside new Labour candidate, Jane Weston for one of the two Cirencester seats.

Bourton, Northleach and the North Cotswolds have all new candidates.

CDC Leader Lynden Stowe is the Conservative candidate for the North Cotswolds, standing against Liberal Democrat Andrew Clayton.

Dave Kerr-Rettie (Lib Dem) and Fiona McKenzie (Cons) are new faces for Northleach following Mavis Lady Dunrossil's departure from the council.

David Thorpe (Cons) and Roberta Crawley (Lib Dem) are battling to become Bourton's county councillor.

Standing against Tory county councillor for the East Cotswolds is new arrival Frank Skinner (Lib Dem) and for Moreton and Stow leader of the council Barry Dare is up against Chris Hourihan (Labour) and Giles Derrington (Lib Dem).

New in the South Cotswolds is Anne Clark (Lib Dem) and Christopher Giles (Labour) who previously stood for the East Cotswolds.

In Tetbury, Darren Mclaughlan (Lib Dem) and Shirley Mosdell (Labour) will be up against Tory councillor Tony Hicks.
