Piers Bowley from Cirencester helps win gold at Chelsea Flower Show

A COTSWOLDS nurseryman has received recognition on the grandest stage by helping win a gold medal at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show.

Piers Bowley, from Cirencester, grew and supplied a large quantity of the plants for this year’s Hardy Plant Society display at Chelsea flower show which was awarded a gold medal and also chosen as the backdrop when the Queen presented HRH the Prince of Wales with the RHS 'Victoria medal of honour'.

Mr Bowley, who has grown and sold his array of hardy plants through Cirencester Farmers’ Market for the last ten years said he is delighted with the accolade.

"It’s just beyond belief," he said. "It was the best phone call in the world. Working towards the show was a hard slog.

"The last two months have been hell - trying to get plants looking their best and because we're a small nursery competing against bigger companies.

"It’s taken me ten years to get my name out there and I’m really chuffed.

"Selling at Cirencester Farmers’ Market has been a real stepping stone for me and it’s lovely to see all our hard work come to fruition."

Bowley Plants will be operating from a new customer friendly retail site on the family farm in Ashton Keynes in 2010, but will still be available through the current nursery by appointment, at Cirencester farmers market, second and fourth Saturdays each month.

The next Cirencester Farmers’ Market is on June 13.
