TRADERS in Malmesbury town centre are hoping to lift the gloom of the looming recession with their traditional late night Christmas shopping event next month.
Snow, children’s rides, handbell ringers and carol singers are on the programme for the evening of December 5 along with street performers, mulled wine and a brass band.
The library is running a craft drop-in session between 6pm and 8pm and a free park and ride has been organised from Malmesbury Garden Centre.
Father Christmas will be taking up his regular place in the grotto and shopkeepers will be vying for first prize in the best dressed window competition.
Judging will take place in the morning and chamber of commerce members who have not entered before are being encouraged to have a go this year.
The upper high street will be closed to traffic from 5.30pm and local clubs and organisations who would like to run a street stall can contact the chamber on 01249 783434.
