Girl Guides, Brownies, Scouts and Cub Scouts from the Thame area had to abandon a camp fire because of bad weather.

That didn’t put them off – they simply moved indoors, but any idea of lighting a fire obviously had to be abandoned.

About 200 youngsters in uniform and friends attended the event – still called a ‘camp fire’- at Thame Church hall in 1967.

The programme included community singing and solo items by Scout leader Brian Simms and popular local vocalist Paul Travers.

Hot dogs, soup and other hot drinks sold well during the evening.

Thame is a thriving historic market town where medieval buildings stand alongside Georgian and Victorian architecture.
