SEVERAL roads across Malmesbury will be closed this evening to accommodate to a large Christmas event.

Malmesbury's town centre will be buzzing with people and festive activities between 6pm and 9pm this evening, Friday, December 1 at the highly anticipated Christmas Late Night Shopping Event.

To ensure the safety of shoppers and stall holders, several streets in town will be closed to all traffic between 4pm and 9.30pm. 

These road closures include part of B4040 - Abbey Row, Gloucester Street and Oxford Street - from its junction with Bristol Street to its junction Cross Hayes Lane.

The High Street, from its junction with Gloucester Street to its junction with St Dennis Lane, will also be closed to all traffic during this time period.

This exciting annual event has been organised by Malmesbury Town Council and local business promotion group Malmesbury Town Team.

BBC News' health editor Hugh Pym will be officially opening the event with town mayor Gavin Grant.
