PUPILS, teachers and families at a school near Cirencester have been celebrating after being rated good in a recent inspection from education regulator Ofsted.

Stratton CofE Primary School received the rating after two inspectors visited the school In July this year.

In the report following the inspection in July, the school was described as a 'welcoming, nurturing and happy place' where its pupils 'follow a rich and broad curriculum, with exciting opportunities to enhance their learning'.

Inspectors said: “Pupils in key stages 1 and 2 follow a high quality, coherently sequenced curriculum which is taught effectively”

“Pupils also follow a reading curriculum that supports them to read confidently and fluently”.

Its pupils were also described as “a credit to the school”.

The school, which has 200 pupils, was previously rated as requires improvement in 2019.

Headteacher Ceris Towler said: “I am immensely proud of the way that the children represented themselves, and the school during the inspection.

"It was observed how polite and respectful they were and how they thoughtfully consider others.

“We are all thrilled that the hard work and commitment that every staff member and governor has put in over the last three and half years, along with the support of parents and the wider community, has been recognised, and I sincerely thank everyone who has been part of our improvement journey.

“We look forward to welcoming families to our Open Day to see the caring ethos and exciting curriculum that we have to offer for themselves.”

Chair of Governors, Caroline Crawford, said: “We are delighted that the Ofsted Inspectors recognised both the “high expectations of pupils’ learning and behaviour” held by teaching staff as well noting that we are a school where “staff care deeply about pupils and prioritise their safety and well-being”.

“We are proud to be recognised as a solidly good school”.

In order to improve further, the school was advised to continue to develop assessments in some subjects as well as aspects of the early years curriculum.

Inspectors said:“While early reading and early mathematics are well-planned and sequenced, this is not the case for other areas of the early years curriculum.”

The school welcomed experienced Reception teacher, Mrs Eamer, to its team in September and has recently introduced changes to its early years provision to support this.

The school’s open day takes place on October 6, when parents and carers are invited to take a look around from 9.30am.
