Pub-goers dig deep for pool

GENEROUS drinkers at the Drillman's Arms in Stratton dug deep in their pockets to raise £219 for Cirencester's open-air swimming pool.

The pub-goers forked out all their loose change and filled a whiskey jar on the bar full of coins to help the struggling pool.

Landlady Denise Selby said it was the second jar they had filled in less than a year thanks to their customers.

"It was all the loose change or whatever people had left after buying a round, we have extremely generous customers," she said.

Vice chairman of the pool's committee, Mike Cutts, said the money was gratefully received.

"The Drillman's Arms have been very supportive of the outdoor pool in the past and I am delighted that once again they have helped us out in our hour of need," he said.

The pool's funds were given an extra boost last weekend when the Gloucestershire police male voice choir performed at the Bingham Hall and raised over £2,500.

In the last eight months £24,000 has been raised from donations and fundraising nights.
