STUNNING images were captured of a murmuration at Shorncote Reedbeds Bird Hide last night.

This popular watching spot in Somerford Keynes is situated to the north western corner of the water park and has two hides overlooking the larger lakes.

Murmurations have been defined by Wildlife Trust as, "huge groups of starlings that twist, turn, swoop and swirl across the sky in beautiful shape-shifting clouds."

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds think starlings do this because there is safety in numbers and predators such as peregrine falcons find it hard to target one bird in the middle of a hypnotising flock of thousands.

They also gather to keep warm at night and to exchange information, such as good feeding area.

This amazing display was captured by Fi Keates who made a last minute decision to pop down to the Shorncote Reedbeds Bird Hide yesterday evening, Sunday February 26.

Fi Keates said: "I was very lucky to be in the right place at the right time. It was a magical sight."
