SIX former Cotswold district councillors have been made honorary aldermen in recognition of their services to the council and local communities over the years.
Councillors paid tribute to Phil Coleman, Bob Smith, Sue Herdman, Rod Hooper, Sandy Price and Tim Royle after the meeting of the full council on Tuesday.
The former councillors, who between them clocked up 96 years of service, were then invited to join serving councillors and senior officers at a Christmas lunch at the Stratton House Hotel.
Council chairman Sheila Jeffrey told the Standard it was an privilege to bestow the honorary position upon her former colleagues.
"It felt quite emotional," she said. "Council is here today because of the work they have done and it was a tremendous privilege to present them with the gongs. They have all done a fantastic job.
"Every one of them has had senior responsibilities and served for many years on the council."
