MALMESBURY’S German twin town visit to Salisbury was said to be a ‘huge success’.

Ten German visitors from the town of Niebull joined those from Malmesbury in a visit to the city on Sunday, September 2.

The visit was hosted by Salisbury’s mayor Mike Osment.

Mayor Osment met the delegation on the steps of the city’s Guild Hall before walking through the historic city centre to the Cathedral.

“We were pleased to welcome Malmesbury residents and their German guests to Salisbury, " said Salisbury mayor Mike Osment.

"They saw for themselves that our beautiful city is very welcoming of visitors and is getting back to business.”

Niebull Town councillor Anja Cornell commented: “We had not been to Salisbury before.

"It is lovely just like Malmesbury but bigger.

"We were all shocked in Germany by what happened but it is good to see people enjoying themselves there.”

Malmesbury mayor Fran Vandelli added “I was delighted that our Wiltshire Councillor Gavin Grant spoke to Mike about receiving us on this visit.

"It was an honoured to be welcomed by my fellow mayor and to walk through the city with both of us proudly wearing our chains of office.”

Malmesbury’s Wiltshire Cllr Gavin Grant added: "It was a great visit and important to show that we will not be intimidated”.
