South West Division One
Swindon Town 1-2 Southampton
SWINDON TOWN Ladies suffered defeat in their first league game of the new season.
Two goals within a minute ultimately cost the Ladies dear against Southampton Saints Girls & Ladies despite having taken an early lead.
New skipper Polly New headed the hosts in front with just eight minutes on the clock.
Just five minutes later though, Town lost their lead as they were beaten twice in a minute.
A dominant second half saw Swindon press for an equaliser and Emily Arrell went closest when she crashed her shot against the crossbar.
Southampton held on and Town will look to bounce back when they host Leyton Orient in the FA Women’s Premier League Cup on September 2 at Fairford Town Football Club.
Manager Dan Jones said: (It was a) tough result to take after a strong performance from the players.
"Plenty of positives though. Back to hard work on the training ground next week. We’ll go again.
"Would like to say thanks to everyone that came to show support for Swindon today. Sorry we couldn’t get a result for you all."
