A MAN died in a shed fire in South Cerney this morning.

Emergency services were called to an address in High Street, South Cerney, at 9.30am, following reports of a fire in a shed.

An 85-year-old man who was inside the shed at the time died at the scene.

An investigation is under way to determine the cause of the fire and the circumstances of the man's death, though at this stage it is not being treated as suspicious.

The coroner has been informed.

Adam Openshaw, Area Manager at Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Shortly before 9.30am yesterday (August 20) we were called to an address in the High Street, South Cerney following a reports of a fire in a shed.

“Two crews, one from Cirencester and one from Fairford, attended using two hose reels and two sets of breathing apparatus to put the fire out.

"Sadly, an 85-year-old man, who was in the shed at the time, died at the scene.

“We are working with the police to carry out an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

“Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service would like to extend our deepest sympathies to those affected.
