CIRENCESTER Macmillan has launched an appeal for a few last bits of help for their popular annual fund raising show.

The Stratton Horticultural Show & Macmillan Fun Day takes place on August bank holiday Monday and is part of fundraising activities which more than £40,000 each year for the cancer charity.

Since the group formed 20 years ago they have raised a staggering £1m.

Chairman Jenny Jarvis explained:"We’d still love to find just another £300 which will cover all our expenses, we have had a local family business who have helped us enormously with a few things needed on the day, they wish to remain anonymous but we are so grateful for their generosity.

"And the BBQ – well the young chief cook is getting married on Saturday and because we had no luck finding a replacement he and his soon to be wife, who has recently joined Cirencester Macmillan,  delayed their honeymoon until Tuesday so they can run the BBQ.

"How marvellous is that?"

However, Jenny confirmed that the event would be the last of its kind for the succesful fundraising team:

"Sadly due to the struggle for sponsors over the last couple of years and for helpers on the day and with other events growing in size taking place in and around  the town we have decided this will be the last field event for Stratton Show that we will run.

"We thank Cirencester Horticultural Society for inviting us for the last six years and we’ve had enormous fun but at the end of the day we have to put on events that are viable and worth everyone’s valuable free time.

"Let’s hope we have a nice dry day and thank you for your support to this event over the years,"
