LECHLADE Gardening Club. it has been a trying time for keen gardeners as the lack of water is not ideal for treasured plants although it seems to have little impact of flourishing bindweed and ground elder! Hopefully there will be a bumper crop of entries for the Flower and Produce show on Saturday, September 1. Pick up an entry form for the Post Office or Cutler and Bayliss or download one from lechladegardeningclub.org.uk. Closing date is Tuesday, August 28. Late entries are not permitted.

LECHLADE Medical  Centre Patient Participation Group (PPG). From June 4-8 the PPG put up a “Thought Tree” in the waiting room of the Medical Centre. Post-its were available and patients were asked to comment on the service provided and make any suggestions for improvement. The overwhelming majority of responses were positive.

Patients expressed appreciation of the friendliness and efficiency of the staff, the ease and speed of getting appointments and the quick response by the doctors to phone calls made to the surgery. Below is a small but representative selection of the comments made:

"A fantastic Practice. Everyone is really friendly and understanding. With my work commitments they have always managed to see me; By far the best surgery around. Superb service; I love this surgery. Staff are very helpful. Can always get an appointment quickly; Love the fact that the doc rings straight back and appointments are immediate. Thank you; Lovely service on phone and in surgery; Excellent nurses and doctors. Reception staff very helpful. Good appointment system; Amazing with children. Children’s area is very helpful to keep them occupied. Always available for advice and happy to see you. Lots of available appointments. Thank you."

The very few complaints were mainly about not being seen until sometime after the appointment time. There was one request for more home visits and one for longer appointments to allow more in-depth discussion.

There were only two suggestions for improvements:  knock down a wall to create more parking space (unlikely to happen) and make available a water container (being considered).

LIONS at Bowmoor Sailing Club enjoyed a terrific fund raiser with the open water swim at Bowmoor. The sun shone, there was an excellent turnout of swimmers and supporters and a magnificent £2,000 was raised to be shared equally between the Wiltshire Air Ambulance and the Lechlade and District Lions.

Lion John Sheffield said that there were 26 entries on the Friday night but in the event 58 eager swimmers were ready to tackle the 200m, 1k, 2k and 3k courses. They were supported by Lions and friends of Lions with standby boats and canoes and a bacon or sausage butties and drinks.

Organiser Mike Read said ‘I was really thrilled with how the event panned out. Next year’s will be bigger and better. A huge thanks must go to Bowmoor Sailing Club for the use of its facilities and to ALL who helped run the event.’

There is still time to boost these funds by contacting Mike on 01367252023 or John Sheffield 01367252797/07780698120
