A WILDLIFE sanctuary has launched an urgent appeal for help after a similar centre nearby closed.
Oak and Furrows Wildlife Centre has been inundated with animals after Calne Wild Bird & Animal Rescue Centre shut last month.
Cricklade-based Oak and Furrows cares for sick, injured and orphaned animals while also raising awareness of wildlife issues through talks and work experience placements.
When the Calne centre closed, staff asked Oak and Furrows to collect all the animals they could.
To help save as many animals as they can, Oak and Furrows launched a just giving appeal.
Commenting on the page they said: “With over 400 animals currently on site, our resources are stretched to their limits, however we believe all animals deserve a second chance so we have agreed to take on these extra animals.
“We are in desperate need of funds in order to build new areas, buy equipment, food and medicine, increase staff hours and pay additional vet fees, all of which will be essential to this mission.”
They managed to raise more than £3,700 but they still need more donations.
This year, Oak and Furrows have seen an unprecedented numbers of wildlife casualties brought to their centre and are on course to eclipse the 4,403 brought to them 2017.
In June this year alone, they took in 883 new patients.
Currently, the centre is appealing for the following items to be donated - Tinned puppy food, wet cat or dog meat, dog and cat biscuits, fat balls, wild bird seed, dried meal worms and kitchen roll.
These items can be dropped off at the centre between 9am -5pm.
Oak and Furrows are also hosting a open day at their centre on Sunday, August 26, from 11am to 5pm
Entry is £3, free for kids, with a family fun day featuring music, talks, games, stalls, tours, food, drink and more. For more details go to bit.ly/2KBn3N5
