SOUTH Gloucestershire's 'biggest event of the year' is taking place this weekend.

If you haven't already got tickets to this years South Glos Show at the Westerleigh Showground then you need to get online and book them in!

Never will you see an event which so much variation for people of all ages and social groups.

With numerous arenas and countless stages there is so much going on throughout the course of Saturday and Sunday August 4/5.

Our reporter Ross Arnott went along on Saturday to take a look at what it has to offer.

There is something for everyone, you walk in and within 15 metres you are greeted by an unbelievable bmx show by Matti Hemmings and his team at the Sprint Print BMX Display and Workshop.

There are countless stalls lining the event, these include Guide Dogs stalls that are seeking to raise awareness for their charities, Avon and Somerset Police, Gurkha Welfare and sweet stalls.

Journey a little further in and you will find some of the most amazing food stalls you will see at any event in the South Gloucestershire area.

Food on offer ranges from hog roasts, chicken stalls, burger vans, fudge shops and pasty trailers. All of which were very popular with all of the public at the event.

The main arena is host to the biggest crowds however, with dog shows by Little Nippers keeping the public entertained before a birds of prey show by Wings of Wales helps to educate children and even some adults.

There is a fantastic kids zone where parents can 'deposit' their children in a creche, or can sit with their young ones and watch a show of worldwide fame, Punch and Judy.

A fairground situated toward the back of the site also helps to offer a bit of a break from the ongoing entertainment with the Waltzers, a fun house and other favourites being available to the public.

Big marquees are set up around the event to offer some shade to attendee's with some containing markets and stalls offering out plenty of free samples and wonderful food and drink. Others offer bards where adults can sit on benches with some of the beverages brought in from suppliers in the area.

Finally, tucked right in and behind the show itself almost is the car section.

This has everything, from new cars on display by Land Rover and Jaguar to Lexus and Ford.

There is a beautiful collection of classic cars at the event also that acts to try and remind some of the older guests of a time where the world was perhaps slightly different.

The event is jam packed and with different music on both days at £12 on the door the tickets a re a bargain.

Sarah Williams one of the organisers was delighted with how the first day had gone.

"It has been a fabulous day with beautiful weather," she said.

"Tomorrow promises more of the same, we hope that there is going to be more people again.

"There is something for everyone, the sun will be shining and there is a lot on offer. The shows we have are fantastic and are drawing good reviews so I have no doubt that Sunday will be just as good if not better."
