CAN you help uncover the secret past of this unique Cirencester bottle?

A special piece of Cirencester's history has been discovered, believed to be handcrafted by a recovering solider at a military hospital in the town.

Last month during the Cotswold Show, Lord Bathurst was greeted by a man carrying an unusual bottle with a mysterious past.

The bottle contained a carefully crafted miniature ship that he bought at a car boot in Quenington years ago for a couple of pounds.

When the bottle was sold to him, he was told it was created by a recovering soldier at the military hospital in Cirencester Park during World War Two.

The woman also explained that it was given to her mother who was a nurse during the war at the time.

Two large military hospitals were built in Cirencester Park During World War Two.

Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard:

There were a number of American soldiers at the hospital at the time, but they believe the invalid was most likely British, due to what looks to be a Union Jack flag as part of the design.

Lord Bathurst is asking for anyone who may have information about the nurse or the mysterious bottle to get in contact with the Bathurst Estate so he can uncover its fascinating past.

You can email the Bathurst Estate at office@bathurstestate.co.uk

The bottle will be donated to the Cirencester Air Raid Shelter Museum, but is currently on display in the Bathurst Estate offices.
