MALMESBURY school pupils took part in an art exhibition in the town hall.

Taking place on Tuesday, July 24, dozens of pupils took part displaying their art work in the Old School Room.

Judges had the tough task of picking a winner, but after some deliberation, Sofia McCormack, aged 12, was the overall winner with her portrait painting winning a £50 voucher.

Second place went to 14-year-old Sam Langham with his painting of a bridge and third place went to 10-year-old Maddison Hardimann for her series of photographs with the pair winning a £25 vouches and £15 voucher.

Several other pictures received praise from the judges for their outstanding work and all were encouraged to keep pursuing their artistic talents.

Malmesbury Mayor Fran Vandelli awarded the prizes for the top three pupils.

Mayor Vandelli said: "With regards to the art work - the exhibition was fabulous! "There was such a range of media used, including collage, pencil, paint and photography, and so many different subjects, including abstracts, landscapes, stories and portrait, and the quality of work was so good that I’m glad I didn’t have to judge it. "I wanted to give everyone a prize!

"Unfortunately I didn’t get to speak to all of the participants, but I could see that all of the students are creative, imaginative and very talented indeed."

The pupils artwork will remain on display for the next five weeks.

The exhibition was organised by Barry Gustard from the art department of Malmesbury School in conjunction with Malmesbury Town Council.
