A YOUNG lurcher who was struck down with meningitis recently is now searching for a loving new home after making a remarkable recovery.

Macey, who is described as having a truly gentle character, came into the care of Forever Hounds Trust, a charity dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming greyhounds and lurchers, earlier this year.

Unfortunately, while awaiting a new home, Macey developed meningitis, a life-threatening disease which made her seriously ill.

Thankfully she has now made a good recovery, getting her back to her normal, playful self.

The little lurcher is now being cared for near Stroud, and is looking for someone very special to offer her a forever home.

There is a likelihood that Macey may have other episodes of this disease, which can be life limiting.

She is therefore on long term medication to keep her fit and well for as long as possible - unfortunately, it is impossible to know how long that will be for, but Macey is completely unaware of that and just knows that she feels full of energy again and wants to play!

Dr Fiona Cooke, head of homing, kennelling and welfare for Forever Hounds Trust says: “Macey needs a very special owner who can help her with her daily medications and check-up appointments at the vets, where she makes friends with everyone she meets.

"Macey finds her trips to the vet quite exciting as she thinks everyone is there just to see her, so she’s quite happy to go as often as needed!

"She loves to interact with people and enjoys learning new tricks and joining in with everything. She is a very quick learner and will be a really rewarding dog to live with.”

Staff at the veterinary practice that treated Macey have also fallen in love with her and have been helping efforts to try and find her a forever home.

Dr Cooke adds: “Macey hasn’t had a lot of experience with other dogs, so although she likes them she does sometimes get a bit worried by them so we think she might be best to live in a home where she is the only dog.

"She needs an owner who has the time and patience to help her out while she is still learning.”

Macey is currently living in a foster home in Gloucestershire. She is house trained and loves her home comforts and would love to find a permanent owner with a snuggly sofa!
