COLENEL Al Worden, Command Module Pilot on Apollo 15 visited Fairford Primary School and RIAT last week as an advocate for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. He said: ‘With RAF Fairford and RIAT in your backyard, students here have the unique experience of seeing first-hand every day how STEM translates from their classrooms into careers in flight.’

THE youngest ever Councillor was co-opted on to Fairford Town Council last week. Jack Morgan is 18 years old, grew up in Fairford and attended Fairford Primary School before moving abroad with his family. Now back in Fairford, he wants to be involved in shaping Fairford’s future.

NEW gateway signs have been installed at the four main entrances to Fairford ahead of the Royal International Air Tattoo. The signs - located at either end of the A417 outside Fairford; at the bottom of Horcott Hill and on the Quenington Road past Dynevor Terrace - show the new branding for Fairford together with the words: ‘Fairford – A Good Place to Be’.

THE second session of The Story Station is on July 19 in Fairford Community Centre for special story time sessions for pre-school children and their parents/carers. Your children can discover the magic of 'The Blue Balloon' and feeling brave with 'Going on a Bear Hunt'. The sessions are £5 per child with discounts available for child-minders, nursery groups and siblings. The price includes a special story time, simple craft activity plus squash and a biscuit!

FAIRFORD History Society meets at 7.30pm on the 3rd Thursday of every month in the Farmor Room of Fairford Community Centre. New members and visitors £3. PEOPLE for You is a free Volunteer Befriending Service for the older people of Fairford, Lechlade and surrounding villages at the Library Club on the 3rd Thursday of each month between 11am-12 noon. The next meeting is Thursday July 19.

EMBRACE is a group of people who have experienced a big range of family planning difficulties including infertility, miscarriage, traumatic birth, stillbirth and neo-natal death, among others. We meet in the evening on the 4th Wednesday of each month usually at a home in Fairford. If anyone has any interest in coming along or getting involved email embracefairford@gmail.com. The next meeting is Wednesday, July 25.
