THREE years after the closure of the popular Fairford Steam Rally, steam engines will once again be returning to Fairford Market Place for one night only on Saturday, August 11.

Steam engines will gather outside the Bull Hotel to celebrate what would have been the 50th anniversary of the much-loved steam rally and to recreate the unique atmosphere that is missed by many in the community.

The Fairford Steam Rally was held in Fairford Park for over 40 years, but had to find a new venue after the rally was cancelled for the third time in six years because of water-logged ground.

For three years from 2013, the event changed its location and was held at Quarry Farm, but did not attract the number of visitors that it had done in the past.

So, unfortunately, the event finally chugged to a stop in 2015.

The event on August 11 is free but there may be a collection for charity.
