AN AREA in Cirencester has been hit by a spate of vandalism this week.

On two separate occasions, damage was caused to the footbridge at City Bank.

The first incident occurred on Sunday night when vandals damaged the hand rails up to the old railway line at the end of Queen Street and the interpretation board at The Glade.

Further vandalism occurred on Monday night when a coping stone was removed from the footbridge.

At the time, a member of the town council team posted on social media "So much work has gone in to City Bank to make it such a lovely place enjoyed by us all so whoever is wrecking it, please please stop."

The Town Council have now fixed the damage on the footbridge.

A spokesperson for Cirencester Town Council said: "Whilst this is extremely upsetting for everyone involved with improving City Bank in creating an area which is now a great space to live near by and increasingly enjoyed by all, the town council has responded quickly to put right the damage."
