Gloucestershire hospitals will benefit from a charity single created by NHS staff.

Known as NHS Voices, a team of staff across the country have announced ambitious plans to produce a Band-Aid style charity single which will see the Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity will benefit from a share of the proceeds.

The project will bring together superstar singers and healthcare heroes to mark the 70th birthday of the NHS.

It has already attracted a wide-range of high profile supporters, including Sir Paul McCartney, who gave his support after receiving a heartfelt letter from the NHS staff who are leading the campaign.

NHS Voices are working with Brit Award-winning and Grammy nominated Jon Cohen and Kat Aylwin to create a cover of classic Beatles song ‘With a little help from my friends’.

The choir will be hoping to reach the top spot for a second time this summer, when they join their musical idols in the studio.

All proceeds from the single will go to NHS Charities Together, a group of more than 100 NHS charities that have come together to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the NHS and raise awareness of the work that NHS charities do to support the NHS.

Head of Fundraising for Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity Richard Hastilow-Smith said: “Our charity raises vital funds above and beyond what the NHS alone can provide, touching lives and making a huge difference to people when they are at their most vulnerable.

“It’s fantastic to be a part of NHS Voices, and to have Sir Paul McCartney involved! The money raised will make a very real difference to local patients, from those fighting cancer to people experiencing heart conditions or dementia, and new babies with serious illness.”
