A CIRENCESTER dad has set an unofficial world record, by pushing a double buggy round a marathon in under three hours.

Rob Forbes, from Quenington, attempted the world record at the Yeovil marathon on Sunday June 10.

Rob's three passengers were daughters Ophelia, aged two and Heidi, aged 18 months, and peppa pig.

Combined the girls weigh 25kg, but there were also snacks and toys to keep the daughters happy.

On the day, Rob ran the race in an official time of 2:43:11, beating the only record he believes stands set by a lady last year of 3:22.

When he registered the record attempt, he was told he had to run it under three hours nine minutes to break it.

"Ophelia talks incessantly, including the dreaded 'are we nearly there yet from mile 2', so I got lots of 'your not listening to me daddy' and 'are you talking to me daddy?," said Rob.

"She was also heckling me to go faster and shouting 'beat ya' when we overtook people on the half marathon which started later.

"I had to promise them lots of ice cream at the finish to get them through but to be fair they didn't cry once and seemed to enjoy it.

"Ophelia wasn't impressed with second place though!"

Rob had always wanted to break the world record having done well in races previously pushing either a single or double buggy, but never got round to doing it.

With the girls growing each day and definitely no more children on the way, it was now or never for Rob to break the world record.

Rob is 100 per cent sure he has broken the world record but is still waiting for his time to be ratified by the Guiness Book of World Records.

It can take up to 60 days to process but he believes he has enough evidence to get the record verified.
