A woman is organising a sponsored walk from Cirencester to Oaksey in memory of her husband.

Judith Hiscock, whose husband Richard died of Prostate cancer last year aged 74, hopes to raise more than £1000 for Prostate Cancer UK.

The walk, which begins at the Market Place, will take place on Saturday, June 30 as part of the charity’s March For Men campaign, a national series of sponsored walks which aims to raise £120 million to develop better treatments and testing for the disease and halve prostate cancer deaths by 2026.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. More than 47,000 men are diagnosed with the disease every year – that’s 129 men every day. At least one in eight men in the UK will be diagnosed with prostate cancer at some time in their life and one man dies from prostate cancer every 45 minutes.

Judith, from Poole Keynes said: "I wanted to do something to raise money for prostate cancer research and also increase awareness of the disease. Prostate cancer has now overtaken breast cancer to become the third biggest cancer killer in the UK, taking one man every 45 minutes.

"Richard lived and farmed in Poole Keynes all his life. He was vice president of Oaksey Cricket Club until 2016, having played for them for 30 seasons, so I’ve joined forces with the cricket club to organise this in memory of Richard.

The walk starts in Cirencester at 10am and will follow a 10-mile route to end up at Oaksey playing field, where the Cricket club plays its matches.

Around 30 people have signed up to take part and Judith is looking for a total of 50 walkers on the day. Registration is free but anyone taking part is asked to raise at least £20 in sponsorship.
