Member of Parliament for the Cotswolds, Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, arranged a summit meeting at Cotswold District Council to discuss the future of bus provisions in Cirencester in light of the cutbacks to the town’s bus services.

The Cirencester Action on Buses group, led by David Prewett, was able to present its plans to representatives of CDC’s strategic planning group, the County Council’s public transport department and senior representative from Stagecoach.

The summit was shown an excellent visual plan dividing the town into two halves. It was proposed that one bus would rotate around each half, servicing the entire town on a two-hourly cycle throughout the day.

Good progress was made and in particular it was emphasised that an enlarged bus service needed to be available as the large Chesterton development is built.

Finally, the need for a proper bus hub in Cirencester was raised yet again and Sir Geoffrey undertook to raise this at the next meeting of the Cirencester Task Force.

He has previously described the lack of a proper bus hub in the town, where visitors and residents have to queue in the rain, as completely unacceptable in the 21st century.
