HUNDREDS of spectators and competitors descended on Rush Skate Park in Stroud last month for the Scooter Open competition.

Prior to the competition 12-year-old Callum Edge from Dursley and Tetbury resident 9-year-old Freddie Aplin explained what makes scooting one of the fastest growing extreme sports.

“Scooting is cool because you get to travel and meet new people from all over the world,” Freddie explained.

Both Freddie and Callum are rising stars of the international scooting scene, and are certainly ‘ones to watch’ in future world championships, but their success has taken hours of practise and a lot of determination.

“It takes so much energy and practise,” said Callum.

“Sometimes it will take a whole week for me to be able to perfect a new trick or skill.”

And there’s no doubt that the young stars’ hard work is paying off, both of them compete at pro-am level, and are sponsored by Gloucester scooting shop Scoot69, who are keen to support the emerging talent in the sport.

Both Freddie and Callum travel to the Stroud Skate Park to practise every week, and are expected to continue their meteoric rise in the sport in the next few years.

Good luck from us all at the Wilts & Glos!
