PARENTS, staff and governors will be taking part in a 10k race to raise money for a school hall.

The 22-strong group from St Mary's CEVA Primary School in Tetbury, will be running in the Westonbirt Arboretum 10k race next Wednesday to raise money to refurbish the school hall.

Installation of new LED lighting, replacing ceiling tiles, hanging bright new curtains and re-decorating the parquet floor and walls are part of the plans.

Pupils from the school use the hall on a daily basis for PE, collective worship, lunch time meals, Breakfast Club and a wide range of after school clubs.

Throughout the year is it used for school productions and plays.

The hall is also the weekly meeting place for community groups including Guides, Brownies, Rainbows, Beavers and on a regular basis various church groups

The Diocese of Gloucester has secured, from the Department for Education, a significant proportion of the funds required to transform the hall.

Despite the funding from the Department for Education, the school still need to raise £8,000 towards the project.

St Mary's need to reach their target by the school holidays so that the work can be completed during the summer break.

The group have set a target of £1,500 to raise from the run to add towards the overall total.

So far they have raised £690 towards their target.

Mrs Woolley, headteacher at St Mary's, added: "The hall is a central and integral part of our school and we are very excited about the opportunity to improve it.

We are very grateful to all those who are running this race and those who have sponsored us."
