CIRENCESTER Fleece Fayre returns for a May Day celebration.

Following last year’s event, the fun filled community festival will celebrate the town and its rich history of the wool trade at the Market Place on Monday from 10.30am to 5pm.

Aspiring to bring the community together with a traditional May Day theme, the event will include Morris & May Pole dancing, live entertainment, sheep and wool display, plenty of delicious hot food and lots of activities for all the family.

Organised by Cirencester Town Council, the aim is to make this an annual event, as part of a legacy to last year’s Abbey 900 celebrations.

The Fleece Fayre will be officially opened at 10am by Cirencester Mayor Nigel Robbins and Corinne Lamus, chairman of the Abbey 900 Committee.

Mr Robbins said: “The Fleece Fayre was so popular last year, so this year we are looking to bring everyone together in the town to enjoy some great entertainment, lovely local food and fun activities.”

The parish church will be hosting activities such as the Story Carpet, which will provide an opportunity to learn about Cirencester’s history and the great Abbey 900 Lego build.

A free photography competition open to all, has launched to capture the whole event.

Two categories will run for people to enter, under 18s and over 18s.

To enter take a photo of the day and upload it to bit.ly/FFPhotoComp

Winners and runners up for both categories will be decided by public vote.

Voting for your favourite photo can be done by following the same link.

The competition will run from noon on Monday until midnight on May 14.

Winners will be announced on June 4 with a photograph professionally printed and framed up for grabs.
