Cirencester Town Council have voted unanimously in favour to reduce the use of plastics in the town.
The council will prohibit the use of non-compostable cutlery and containers on its land from the August 31 2018.
They will also seek to minimise plastic purchases and the sales of single use plastic items with immediate effect.
Markets and events have been encouraged to serve food and drink for immediate consumption using compostable or reusable covering containers.
Cotswold Market have agreed to serve food in reusable containers but will need to liase with traders before they can implement the new altercation.
The vote took place at the council’s annual meeting on Thursday, April 19.
