THE British Heart Foundation Annual General Meeting is on Monday, April 23 in the room at the back of the New Inn. Wine/soft drinks will be served from 7pm and the meeting will begin at 7.30pm. Our guest speaker is one of this country’s most eminent practitioners in the world of cardiology, the British Heart Foundation Professor of Cardiac Surgery in Bristol, Professor Gianni Angelini. All welcome. There is no charge.

In additional the next fund raiser for the charity is a quiz on Saturday, May 12, 7 for 7.30 pm in the new hall. Tickets are £15 from any committee member or phone 01367 253319 or 01367 253762. There will be a two course supper (beef curry and rice or vegetable curry for vegetarians) and a bar.

THE Lechlade Players are staging two plays on April 27 and 28. They will be ‘Not a Soul in the Place, written by Players member Tara Thompson, winner of the best original production at the Harold Joliffe one act festival 2018 and 'All by Myself' by Robert Scott, a hilarious desert island comedy.

The plays will be at the Trout Inn, Lechlade at 7.30pm. Tickets are £12 and available from ticketsource.co.uk/lechladeplayers , the Trout Inn and the Post Office. Supper @ £10 will also be available on the night.

THE Great Severn Estuary Flood is the title of the Lechlade History Society talk on Monday, April 23. Was it a tsunami? Was it a storm surge? You will have to go along to hear the latest theories.

THE award-winning Watermill Theatre’s brand new touring production of Burke and Hare comes to Lechlade on Tuesday, May 8. This is a black comedy that is both hysterical and historical, it tells the story of infamous serial killers William Burke and William Hare who attempted to make a profit from murder during the early 19th century.

Three actors will bring the gruesome tale to life, playing over 16 characters in this new production filled with humour, history and live music. Hayden Wood will play William Burke, Alex Parry will perform as William Hare and Katy Daghorn joins the cast as Mrs Hare, the duo’s scheming accomplice.

Burke and Hare is written by Tom Wentworth and directed by Watermill Associate Director Abigail Pickard Price.

LECHLADE Extravaganza weekend is Friday, May 18-Sunday, May 20. The highlight of the weekend is the Grand Opening of the Memorial Hall by local celebrity Rory Bremner on the Sunday.  Programmes are available (free) from Lechlade Post Office, or on the centre page of April Ripples or download from lechladeonthames.co.uk/lechlade-extravaganza-friday-18th-to-sunday-20th-may-2018/.

THE next concert in St Lawrence Church, Serenade and Sandwiches will be with Guy Fishman Solo Cello on Friday, May 18 at midday. Guy is a returning musician and as principal cellist of Boston’s Handel & Haydn Society, he is one of America’s most distinguished musicians.  He is a period music specialist who lectures and teaches widely. As part of a short UK tour in May 2016, Guy brought his very fine 1704 Tecchler Cello to St Lawrence Church, Lechlade to play two of the Solo Bach Suites.  The recital was a great success and his return is eagerly awaited.
