WHITEFRIARS Sailing Club assisted the training and pre-selection of sailors for this year’s Invictus Games held in Australia.

Over two days on March 9 and 10, the club situated on Lake 26 between South Cerney and Ashton Keynes, assisted Help for Heroes and the Royal Yachting Association.

The selection for the Games will be chosen from up to two hundred wounded, injured and ill service personnel and this initial process was to give the applicants a taste of sailing and find their capabilities, which spanned from those who had never been on a sailing boat to experienced yachtsmen and women.

Whitefriars Sailing Club hosted twenty-eight competing sailors plus three Help for Heroes administrators. The club supported the event with a dedicated team of members comprising of qualified instructors, sailing volunteers, safety boat operatives and onshore helpers.

Whitefriars Sailing Club’s Commodore and management team thanks all the volunteers who supported the event and wish every success to the Help for Heroes sailors with their ongoing training and selection.
