Debut author Sue Jones will be hosting a book signing for her 'Votes for Women' title at Waterstones in Cirencester on Saturday March 17 from 10am to 12pm.

The book, which was launched in February, will feature a chapter about the Suffragettes and Suffragist movements in Cirencester.

Featuring in the book is a picture of the famous Suffragette leader Emmeline Pankhurst which was taken on Cecily Hill by the Bathurst Estate.

The book also features stories of the suffragette movements in Stroud and Cheltenham and it's subject Sue has had a keen interest in from a very young age.

"When I was a child I had an aunt who told me stories about them and she knew a lady who was part of the movement so its something that's sat with me for years," she said.

"I taught history and took an early retirement which was when I was persuaded to do the book by family and friends so I started to do my research and venture into writing. You think you've learnt everything but I keep finding out more."

The book was launched just over a fortnight ago and with more talks and appearances planned, Sue believes her first piece of published work will be a success.

"I've got a few more talks and events planned for the next two weeks so hopefully it will take off from there. It's something that's relevant given the 100 year anniversary so I'm sure local people will be interested. It'll probably be my one and only book but we'll see how it goes," she added.
