SOUTH Cerney residents went flipping mad for Pancake Day on Tuesday, with the community turning up in their Shroves to take part in eight races through the village.

Organiser Joan Townsend said: "It was a great community event. Despite being very cold and raining in the morning everyone had a really good time and there was a good crowd from pre-schooler upwards. There was even a grandfather in one of the races.

"Everyone went back to the church after the event for a prizegiving ceremony."

Meanwhile in Cirencester, chefs Foyez Rahman of Rajdoot and Ciprian Pavlenko of the Malt and Anchor, took part in a pancake flipping competition with Golden Cross Inn chef Toby Refoy.

Toby came up with the idea after seeing Foyez flipping crepes in his restaurant.

Toby battered the opposition, with a winning score of 43 flips.
