HIGHWAYS England have announced plans for a consultation on their proposals to improve the A417.

The consultations are being held between February 15 and March 29 will allow the public to express their views on the proposals.

The A417 between Brockworth bypass and Cowley roundabout, provides an important route between Gloucester and Swindon, helping connect the North of England to the South, but is blighted due to heavy congestion and steep gradients.

The planned proposals could cost in the region of £250,000,000 to £500,000,000.

After the consultation they will combine feedback with further technical analysis and use this to decide their ‘preferred route’.

Cllr Paul Hodgkinson, Leader of Gloucestershire County Council Lib Dems, represents part of the A417 and says: “We’ve waited so long for this road to be built so it’s important that everyone knows what is going on and has a chance to comment on the proposals.

“I totally support plans to resolve the ‘Missing Link’ so we can stop the gridlock, accidents and air pollution.

“At last after all the years of campaigning we appear to be getting somewhere.

“Once the solution is agreed we’ll be making sure the Government follows through with the money to start construction work.”
