TWO people involved in a serious crash on Wotton Road in Charfield have been taken to hospital, one requiring CPR with the other in an induced coma.

Dozens of police cars, ambulances and fire engines attended the scene and an air ambulance also landed in the village near to the incident.

A police spokesman described the collision as 'serious' and has appealed for any witnesses to contact Avon and Somerset police quoting incident 861 of January 28.

Emergency services were contacted at 7.34pm following the accident.

Seven fire crews were dispatched, including three from Avonmouth, two from Thornbury, one from Wotton and one from Temple.

On arrival, crews found two vehicles had collided. Five people had been inside, three of whom had been able to remove themselves from the cars.

One casualty had to be cut out of the car, before being intubated and taken to hospital in an induced coma.

Another was given CPR before being taken to hospital by air ambulance.

An Avon Fire and Rescue spokesman highlighted the need for motorists to drive carefully at night and reminded people to take care especially in low or fading light.

According to reports on social media, members of the public were involved in assisting paramedics.

The road will remain closed while police investigation work is carried out.
