STILL fairly quiet at Blunsdon with little news about the new stadium. There are always rumours going on; a recent one being that the stadium will be built within the foot print off the existing stadium but with a shorter track.

It does seem to make sense but no point in over speculating just yet!.

The negatives suggest that no new stadium will emerge especially as the greyhounds will no longer race on Wednesday evenings meaning that Saturday night will remain as the only dog night.

But look behind the story and an extra daytime BAGS meeting will be held on Wednesday mornings.

These meetings, held for the benefit of booming shops and similar across the globe, do produce a very significant income stream and keep dogs racing profitably in Wiltshire.

Certainly the profit is more than that available for an evening meeting.

Robins supporters may surmise that as a result the side could race at home on Wednesdays now that the Premiership has fixed Monday and Wednesday race nights except for Swindon which has a number of preserved Thursday evening home matches.

Not sure that will happen though.

One thing that does seem certain is that Swindon will open on Monday 26 March against Belle Vue in a league versus cup winners contest which will be a real test to see if Monday night speedway will pay at Blunsdon.
