POLICE are warning people about a scam after a resident in the Baunton area, near Cirencester, received an email alleging to be from HM Revenue.co.uk.
The email was headed 'Customer Portal Payment Acknowledgement B758151/Your Gov.uk return is confirmed/Item #R380002'.
The suggestion was that the recipient was eligible to receive a refund of an amount of money.
They were advised to claim this and to have their credit/debit card ready and more information was contained in the email and a link to proceed.
Police are advising residents to be confident that the Inland Revenue will not contact people in this way.
If you receive such an email, do not act upon it and report to Action Fraud www.actionfraud.police.uk
