Kingsway Rovers..................................... 5

Alkerton Rangers..................................... 0

FOR an hour of this game Alkerton kept the division leaders at bay with some stout defending.

Vaughan Wilkinson and Rich Phillips in the centre ably supported by Justin Vanstone and Scott HIndshaw dealt admirably with the strong Kingsway forwards. As well as being creative going forward Henry Turner and Kirk Wilkinson tracked their men well, and Charlie Henry and Johan Curzon worked hard to suppress the threat down the flanks.

However, the star of the team was keeper Chris Stark who pulled off a string of impressive saves, the best of which saw him turn a point blank header over on 34 minutes and just before the break when he twisted in mid-air to parry a dipping drive around the post.

It wasn’t all one way traffic in the first period and Lewis Vanstone’s skill kept the Kingsway defence on their toes.

Indeed Alkerton almost shocked their opponents on 41 minutes when Dave Potter’s volley from the edge flashed millimetres wide.

Early in the second half Potter again nearly put the Eastington outfit ahead in identical fashion.

However, an injury to Phillips meant boss Kev Bond having to enter the fray and with the superior fitness of the Kingsway side telling Rangers were subjected to attack after attack.

The deadlock was broken in cruel circumstances on 61 minutes as a left-wing corner sailed in without a touch.

Stark was helpless as three more efforts extended Kingsway’s lead in the following 12 minutes and the fifth was duly dispatched in the dying embers of the match.
