Stroud University of the Third Age (U3A), Sixties shopping with Richard Burton
SHOPPING 21st century style is scrolling down a screen and highlighting choices – a lifetime away from “Yes Madam, no madam” and actually being served.
Stroud University of the Third Age (U3A) members enjoyed a step back in history this week (January 4) when speaker Richard Burton depicted the more leisurely genteel customs of shopping Sixties style.
His amusing stories often recalled the status-based pomposity conjured up on TV in “ Are You Being Served?” and many in the audience were prompted to recall their own retail experiences of 60 plus years ago.
Chairman David Nathan thanked the speaker and reminded members that at their next meeting on February 1, the talk will take them to the exotic Seychelle islands.
