MEMBERS of the community are paying tribute to Graham Patefield-Smith following his 'sudden and tragic death' in last week's fatal crash in Stroud.

The 73-year-old was knocked down by a driver on Stratford Road on January 3, and despite the best efforts of members of the public and emergency services, did not survive his injuries.

His son, Martin Patefield-Smith, who lives in Cheltenham has expressed his great sadness at his father's death as others have also paid tribute to his dedication and active involvement in the community.

A founder member of the first CoFlats Cohousing Community in Lansdown Stroud and an integral part of Stroud Car Share Club, Graham will be missed by friends, colleagues and the many people whose lives he touched throughout the district.

David Michael, managing director of the Cohousing Company, paid tribute to his friend and colleague: "Graham's sudden and tragic death will be felt by many, especially his loving family, friends and members of the Cohousing Community in Lansdown, Stroud.

"He was very community minded and always ready to help others, both in by being there as a friend or by helping to fix things around the Cohousing Community.

"He alone managed the servicing of one of the most successful Car Share Clubs in the UK."

A 46-year-old BMW driver from Painswick has been released from police custody after being arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving whilst under the influence of drugs and possession of Class A drugs.

The SNJ will announce details of Graham's funeral when they are released later this month, anyone who wishes to pay tribute to Graham should contact tla@stroudnewsandjournal.co.uk
