A PAINSWICK man who was arrested for failing a drug test as part of an investigation into a fatal car crash in Stroud earlier this week has been released from police custody.

The 46-year-old BMW driver was taken into custody on suspicion of driving whilst under the influence of drugs and possession of Class A drugs after police were called to the rush-hour incident on Wednesday.

Sadly a 73-year-old man died at the scene after being hit by the driver of a blue BMW 118d outside the Tesco superstore in Stratford Road at around 5.30pm.

Police said that the BMW driver had been released under investigation pending test results, which are expected to take a couple of months to complete.

Witnesses or anyone with information should call 101 quoting incident 338 of January 3.
